How to Clean Rusty Objects
When metal objects rust, a reddish-brown layer forms on their surface, which is the natural corrosion reaction of iron or its alloys when exposed to a combination of oxygen and water.
Although there are dozens of products that can remove rust from metal, they are generally very expensive. Below, we suggest a natural and equally effective alternative for cleaning rusty objects.
You will need:
- Aluminum foil
- Juice of three lemons
- White vinegar
- 3 tablespoons of baking soda
Cut several pieces of aluminum foil and soak them in lemon juice.
Rub the rusty surface of the object with the aluminum foil pieces until the first layers of rust are removed. If you notice that the rust is not coming off, it’s time to apply the vinegar.
Pour the vinegar into a deep bowl and immerse the rusty object completely in it.
Leave it soaking in the vinegar overnight and wipe it the next day with a microfiber cloth soaked in baking soda. Finally, wipe it again with a clean cloth.
Other Alternatives to Clean Rusty Objects
Salt and Lemon
Lemon is effective for cleaning rusty objects. Pour some fine salt on the rust spots, then add a few drops of lemon juice. Let the mixture sit for at least 3 hours before scrubbing vigorously. Finish by rinsing with clear water and drying thoroughly.
Citric Acid
